Lily Chin’s Appearance at Yarn Shop Draws Record Crowd
Louisville, Ky.: Knitwear designer Lily Chin’s appearance at Sophie’s Fine Yarn Shoppe in Louisville, Ky. last month drew a record crowd of fans and yarn enthusiasts. “I’ve never seen anything like it in a yarn shop,” said Barbara Franc, owner of Sophie’s and a professional in the hand knitting industry for more than 20 years. “People were lined up in single file outside my shop waiting for her to arrive. We opened the doors at 6 p.m. and sold 30 books in an hour. And Lily’s workshops were a hit with my customers. They keep asking when I’ll bring her back to teach classes again.” Chin credits the great turnout to word-of-mouth buzz Franc generated among customers and the work of her publicist at Interweave Press, who landed a front-page feature article about Chin in the local daily newspaper and scheduled both Franc and Chin for interviews on three local television interviews in advance of her appearance. Chin is looking forward to more yarn shop appearances in 2005-06 to promote the Lily Chin Signature Collection. “My schedule sometimes is like the Amazing Race... but I love it! One week last year I went from Venice to NY to LA to Anchorage. I’ll visit any yarn shop where there’s a strong enough interest.”
